Have an airplane sitting? Mustard can help!
Airplanes need exercise just like people. Sitting can be extremely hard on them, and can substantially lower their value if they sit too long. Oil seals and rubber parts will dry up, stiffen, and start to leak later on. Engines need to be lubricated (by running) to protect against corrosion. Electrical systems are more reliable when they are frequently used. Starting the engine and letting it idle will help lubricate the engine, but it also collects water vapor from combustion inside the crankcase. That water vapor burns off when it is flown at operating temperature. Saving money by not flying your airplane may end up costing you more in the long run.
Okay, How Much?
Mustard recommends that you have your airplane flown at least 1 hour every 3 months. If you are unable or unwilling to fly your airplane for an extended period of time, it makes sense to have a competent pilot exercise it periodically. This not only keeps your machine in shape, but keeps you up-to-date on its condition during the period of downtime. Mustard will not only exercise your plane, but provide a report on how everything is (or isn't) working. If you are unable to return to flying and decide to sell, buyers will have Mustard's recent evaluation of its flying condition. That's a valuable sales tool...even with a squawk list!
How Much will it Cost?
Simply name me on your insurance policy as a pilot, or else I would have to charge for separate insurance coverage...which will be more expensive. If you pay for the fuel, I charge $200 for a 1-hr flight. This includes pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight evaluation. That may sound high for an hour of flight time, but it is money well invested. You are paying for a professional to help you maintain the condition of your airplane. Travel cost to and from your location is additional, and will vary.
